In 1818, the Grivel family from the Italian town of Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc, decided to change their blacksmiths entirely to the production of high-quality and reliable mountain sports equipment due to the constantly growing mountain tourism. The Grivel ice ax was born. But it took until 1909 until the first crampons went into production at Grivel. In the middle of the 20th century, these crampons played a decisive role in the fact that the three highest peaks in the world, Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga could finally be climbed. Today, almost 200 years after the founding of the company, Grivel mastered the balancing act between tradition and progress, between forging and aerospace technology, and between intuition and research and development, and is renowned worldwide for his crampons, ice picks and axes, climbing harnesses and carabiner.
