The Salewa success story begins in 1935 as manufacturer for SAddler and LEather WAres in Munich. In 1955 the introduction and the establishment in the outdoor and sports market was made with the development and production of the legendary Andes backpack. In the 1960s, Salewa became a leader in alpine innovation and set new standards with inventions such as the fully adjustable Salewa classic light crampon and the tubular ice screw, which today are still industry standards. For the traditional company Salewa, now headquartered in Bolzano in South Tyrol, there has never been and there will never be a standstill, after the acquisition of well-known manufacturers and reputable specialists in the ski touring sector, Salewa is one of the largest and most innovative suppliers for mountain sports equipment in the world. After a global brand relaunch in 2014, all products from outdoor clothing to footwear, backpacks and tents up to mountaineering equipment such as ropes, slings and hooks carry the new dynamic brand logo and with a new Corporate Identity, Salewa has taken a worldwide leading position in the field of alpine sports.

Salewa – always on the go

Salewa the nowadays Italian mountain sports supplier never stands still! The company has recently acquired the traditional manufacturer of ski bindings Silvretta and the specialist for ski equipment and clothing Dynafit and therefore extended its products range to high-quality ski tour and freeride skis, boots, bindings and clothing. Even more innovation! That’s what the outdoor brand imposingly showed in 2014 through the global brand relaunch and a new corporate identity with the new modern logo.  We can’t wait to see where Salewa’s trip is leading to. Salewa becomes Italian ...

…or South Tyrolean to be more precise. In 1983, SALEWA was taken over by the owner of sporting goods wholesale, the Oberalp AG-SPA and the headquarters were relocated from Munich to Bolzano. In 2011 Salewa set a further milestone in its corporate history: The newly built headquarters of the Salewa group with its 350,000 m³, including a world-class climbing gym, central warehouse, and office space open in Bolzano. Its climbing wall is the largest in northern Italy with more than 90 climbing routes and almost 2000 m² climbing surface.

Salewa athletes make the brand move forward

Professional mountaineers like the Swiss Roger Schäli, Michi Wärthl or Angelika Rainer, the freeride athletes Eva Walkner and Björn Herreger test Salewa products right up to their limits every day in the mountains. In close collaboration between athletes’ team and developers Salewa can improve its products continuously. The former conservative image of the brand is gone – nowadays Salewa is a popular freeride and mountain sports brand, which  has no longer this conservative image. Salewa has instead blossomed into a popular which offers high quality and stylish products for demanding users.
