Their philosophy is: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.
Patagonia was started at the beginning of the 1970's by a well known climber, Yvon Chouinard, by the purchase of a rugby jersey from Scottland. Since then, Patagonia has been successful in creating environmentally friendly, high-end mountain sports clothing as well as backpacks, bags and accessories.

The success story of Patagonia

The environmentally conscious manufacturer of outdoor clothing and mountaineering equipment was founded in 1972 in California, USA. Since then ecological responsibility and social commitment has continuously been a central aspect of PatagoniaPatagonia's first products were climbing hardware such as pitons and chocks that conquered the outdoor market by storm at the time. In the late 1960s the company started selling outdoor and climbing clothing. Environmental consciousness and social responsibility has always been a main focus of Patagonia. Already since 2011 the company has offered its customers to repair worn out clothing and equipment or to recycle it. Their proclaimed goal is it to make every production stage as eco-friendly as possible and to ensure fair, legal and humane working conditions throughout the entire supply chain.

Today, Patagonia’s range of outdoor products and clothing lines cover a multitude of applications. Patagonia board shorts, bikinis, wetsuits and lifestyle apparel are worn by surfers and on the beach. The Patagonia “Live Simply”, “Simply fly” and “Simply Life” t-shirts with their bright colours and their statement prints have become a classic. Patagonia's main focus however is still alpine sports and rock climbing. High-tech Gore-Tex hardshell jackets, stretchy softshell trousers, lightweight insulation layers, functional Merino and synthetic fiber underwear as well as casual clothing for bouldering and yoga offer a unique freedom of movement combined with high-quality materials and comfort. Various garments are made of 100% pure organic cotton and are fair trade or bluesign certified. Some clothing items are made of a high-quality hemp tissue that offers a high wearing comfort. With Patagonia down clothing only quality down with certified origin is processed. With their new clothing line for trail running Patagonia now has entered the running sector as well. These high-tech garments fulfill all expectations of running enthusiasts.
