Bergans of Norway has been driven by dedicated and passionate outdoor enthusiasts for more than 100 years and has played an important role in Norway's outdoor life and culture since it was founded in 1908. Today, Bergans of Norway is a leading player in the development of functional outdoor equipment and apparel. But everything started when the bicycle manufacturer, enthusiastic hunter and nature lover Ole F. Bergan invented a groundbreaking carrying frame for backpacks. He launched the forerunner of the modern backpack – a patented solution that Roald Amundsen already appreciated on his expeditions. No other manufacturer of outdoor gear and apparel can compete with Bergan's history in the outdoors and polar expeditions. So Bergans unique history and knowledge of Norwegian nature is the starting point for all solutions.

The success story of Bergans of Norway

In 1910, the outdoor brand Bergans of Norway achieved a milestone in the history of the company with the first leather backpack. Not only the founder of Bergans of Norway himself, Ole F. Bergan, found his backpack great but also the first man who went to the South Pole, Roald Amundsen. When choosing his backpack, he swore by the technical Bergans rucksacks. As time went by, the Norwegian outdoor manufacturer extended its range to Bergans kids carriers, sleeping bags and expedition clothing. Nowaday, Bergans of Norway is more than able to fit out the adventuresome outdoor playground with high-quality clothing and technical equipment.

Where the Bergans products feel good

No matter if it is for ski tours and mountaineering, outdoor, hunting, lifestyle and travel, skiing or expedition - the variety of Bergans outdoor products perfectly covers every fields of use. In the area of outdoor clothing, not only expedition teams, professional athletes, winter sports aficionados, alpinists and climbers can find what they exactly need, but also hunters, outdoor enthusiasts and nature-loving people from next door. Bergans tents and sleeping bags have been developed for both relaxing camping holiday on the beach and demanding tours in the mountains by any weather conditions. From the classic trekking rucksack to the lightweight alpine backpacks or handy daypacks, shoulder bags and children backpacks, Bergans of Norway perfectly meets all requirements.

Outdoor adventurers inspired Bergans clothing

With the first Bergans extrem anorak, the Norwegian mountain sports brand laid in 1967 a further basis for the successful development of outdoor clothing. It was quickly followed by warm lined parkas, winter jackets, technical soft shells, ultralight rain jackets and trousers, thermal underwear made of merino wool and also lifestyle jumpers, sweatshirts and jackets. The base layer collection of Bergans is named after the Norwegian adventurer Cecile Skog, who successfully crossed Antarctic in 2010 and whose highly functional underwear has certainly contributed hugely to the success of the mission. For example, the Bergans Slingsby collection stands for high-quality clothing for demanding mountaineers and ski tourers. The Bergans of Norway’s Slingsby collection includes hard shell and thermal clothing, soft shells and midlayers, all perfectly adapted to intensively active sports under demanding conditions.

The Bergans Dermizax membrane is competing with Gore-Tex

In matter of membrane, Bergans of Norway relies on the breathable, waterproof and windproof fabric Dermizax instead of Gore-Tex. Unlike other membranes on the outdoor market, both Dermizax and Gore-Tex show an extreme durability and breathability what confers to Bergans hard shell clothing its premium character.

Today, the Norwegian outdoor brand can look back on a long track record in the aera of backpack development. That’s actually why Bergans is now able to offer different backpack models for various purposes.
